Mates® condoms kick off a SKYN™ Revolution!

LONDON – 19 November, 2009 - Despite their traditional, reserved stereotype, British people rank as some of Europes most sexually uninhibited. In research conducted across France, Hungary, Italy, Poland and the UK, Ansell’s newest condom, Mates® SKYN™, discovered that half (50%) of British people aged between 19 and 30 have sent an explicit picture on their phone compared to only a third (35%) of Italians.

Over a third (36%) of Brits have had sex in a public park compared to less than a quarter (23%) of the French and on average, we’re having 5.2 ogasms a month.

Despite this sexual revolution, some of the standard British traits still remain. A third of people in the UK (34%) tend not to think about enjoying themselves in the bedroom and worry more about the amount of noise they are making, compared to only a quarter of French and Italians (26%).  And despite our success rate in the bedroom, the French are still having more sex than us (8.2 vs. 6.5 times a month respectively). These findings accompany the launch of Mates® SKYN™. Designed to revolutionise sex with a condom, it’s the closest thing to wearing nothing and clinically proven to enhance sensation with a new, non latex material called Sensoprene™.

Sex and Relationship expert Jo Hemmings says, “It’s clear from the Mates® SKYN™ Survey that over a third of people in the UK are still not enjoying themselves as much as they should be when having sex.  In my view, our most powerful sexual organ is our brain – imagination is key to having great sex.  As indeed is being able to relax.  Using a safe, natural feeling condom enables us to relax without the fear of pregnancy or contracting an STI, keeping us focussed on that all-important pleasure principle.”

The Mates SKYN survey also found that:
• Communication in the bedroom remains a big problem across all five countries. During sex, 36% of Brits are thinking about what they wish their partners would do to them. This increases in France (49%).
• Brits are the most loyal with just over a quarter (28%) saying that they would consider an affair with someone at work compared to the promiscuous Italians (50%).
• Females in the UK are the most sexually confident and have had three times as many sexual partners (12) as females in Poland (4) and twice as many as France (6).
• 22% of French men wear more than one condom for extra protection, compared with 1 in 10 British men.

Debbie Roberts, Marketing and Communications Manager for Ansell UK comments: “The Mates® SKYN™ Revolution is about fighting for better sex with a condom. We get it.  Condoms are awkward.  They interrupt the flow. However they are still one of the most successful contraceptive devices, in addition to protecting against STI’s. Almost half of men and women surveyed across Europe would prefer a condom that “felt more natural” and we’ve delivered.  Our Sensoprene™ material used in a Mates® SKYN™ condom is a safe, more pleasurable option for both sexes.”
