February 2011 - Samsonite launches its first travel app. The Travel Miles app is a one-stop location for today’s on the go travelers, helping them to track where they’ve been, update friends and family on their location & even avoid excess baggage charges.

Unique to the market, the Travel Miles app is free to download, user friendly, practical and could potentially save money, the perfect companion to all travelers from families to students and a great tool for those travelling on business.

The app’s primary function is to track miles covered, which can then be exchanged for stylish Samsonite gifts with online purchase*.

The innovative app also syncs with social media sites, enabling users to instantly share travel experiences and photos on Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin.

From a practical point of view, the app provides baggage restriction details for most airlines, which is updated regularly so travelers can avoid getting caught out at check-in. It also has a Samsonite dealer locator, making for a painless search for the perfect suitcase companion.

Developed by mobile agency “In The Pocket”, in September 2010 the Samsonite Travel Miles won the Application Marathon prize in Brussels.

By downloading the app, users automatically become recognized as Samsonite frequent travelers. Using a GPS system to clock up travel miles, every time users share their trips online, extra Samsonite Travel Miles are earned and can be swapped for handy travel gadgets with their next online purchase*.

Samsonite Travel Miles can only be exchanged for gifts with the online purchase* of any product at www.samsonite.com/mobileapplication. As an example, for 100.000 miles, users can exchange their miles for a handy excursion bag.

Launched in 2010, Cubelite™ joins a host of other exceptionally strong and light hardside ranges such as Cosmolite™, made of the exclusive Curv® material. Cosmolite is the winner of the Red Dot Design Award ‘Best of the Best 2010’ proving that the ‘future is light’.

HISTORY: Samsonite was created in 1910 by entrepreneurial Colorado native Jesse Shwayder, and was first called the Shwayder Trunk Manufacturing Company. Shwayder quickly recognised the financial opportunities in the growing luggage market due to the 'Gold Rush', which saw more and more people traveling from coast to coast to seek their fortunes. With a longstanding history of breakthroughs in luggage development the brand has always been a leader in polypropylene suitcases but also continues to develop a wide range of polycarbonate products. The leader in ground-breaking designs, in 2010, Samsonite introduced B-Lite™, its lightest ever softside suitcase.

FIRSTS: Samsonite is renowned for a number of ground breaking innovations. These include the 1969 launch of the first Samsonite polypropylene case named Saturn® with injection-moulded shells. This revolutionary design later became the most widely accepted way to produce modern hardside luggage. In 1974 the first Samsonite suitcase on wheels named Silhouette® was introduced. Then in 2008, Samsonite launched their lightest and strongest award-winning luggage range, Cosmolite, made famous for its innovative Curv® material.

TODAY: Samsonite offers its customers hundreds of product lines in 55 countries in EMEA and in over 120 countries across the world.
